The next generation of exceptionally talented performers can be heard during "Music on the River," the Cocoa Beach concert series featuring rising musical stars. The program will feature six young musicians, including sister violinists, Ellen and Soy Choi; pianist, Bethany Davis; cellist, Isaac Moorman; Sarah Ward on oboe; and Monet Jowers who will perform both on horn and piano. The program will include works by composers Maurice Ravel, Johann Sebastian Bach, Reinhold Glière, Frederic Chopin and many more. Sally Hart of the late, great “Lawrence Welk Show” will emcee the program. The concert is free, with a suggested donation of $10. Music on the River concerts are courtesy of a partnership between the Creative Arts Foundation of Brevard, Riverside Presbyterian Church and the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra.  Each Music on the River performance is entirely produced by the aspiring youngsters.

Artist Information


Isaac Moorman, 16, is a pianist and cellist attending Satellite High School in Satellite Beach. He was born in Malaysia and raised in the United States. He started playing piano at age four. At age six, Isaac earned 2nd place at the Sonatina-Sonata Competition at St.Petersburg College, in Florida. At age nine, he earned an Honorable Prize at the Young Artist Competition, Space Coast Pops, Florida. In 2011, he participated in The Washington International Piano Festival, where his coaches included Nelita True, Yuri Didenko, Nikita Fitenko, Xun Pan and Ivo Kaltchev.

Isaac was selected to perform at Kennedy Center through audition during the festival. He participated in the All State and All County festival during 2014-2018. In the summer of 2012, he performed at a benefit concert at the University of Science in Penang. Isaac performs with Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, Central Florida Winds and performs chamber music with Quartet Movement, an organization promoting education of chamber music. During his free time, he mentors younger cellists at Delaura Middle school. Currently, Isaac studies piano with Irina Wolynez and cello under the tutelage of Joan Markstein.

Monet Jowers is a rising junior at Timber Creek High School with a passion for music and a keen interest in science. She has been a Florida All-State Band member for five consecutive years, and was principal horn of the 9/10 band this past year. Having studied piano for 12 years, she has delved into more piano performance opportunities this year, which resulted in winning her high school's concerto competition, being selected as a semi-finalist for the Ocala Symphony Young Artist Competition, and attending Kinhaven Summer Music Camp this summer.

In her eighth grade year, Monet won the Florida State Science and Engineering Fair Grand Award for biology, and now hopes to compete in the senior division in junior and senior year. She looks forward to pursuing a career in immuno-oncology alongside piano and horn studies with a potential double major in college.

 

Bethany Davis is 17 years old and lives in Melbourne. She is currently a senior at Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School and is a member of the IB program. Bethany has been playing piano for eleven years and currently studies with Mrs. Irina Wolynez. She has participated in the Florida Federation of Music Clubs Junior Convention (FFMC) on both state and district levels and has received a superior rating at the district level for various solos, duets, and concertos every year. In 2016, she won 4th place in the Brevard's Got Music Talent Competition, sponsored by the Creative Arts Foundation. She also enjoys playing piano as accompaniment for her school’s chorus as well as for friends in her school’s orchestra.  Besides playing piano, Bethany plays principal cello in the Creative Young Artists Philharmonic Orchestra and has participated in the Brevard All-County Orchestra and Florida All-State Orchestra since the 7th grade. Bethany enjoys making music very much and plans to continue with music all through her future.

Ellen is currently a sophomore at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy.  She has been playing violin for five years under the instruction of Mrs. Utz.  Apart from learning music, Ellen enjoys doing ballet and playing golf.  She is part of the Holy Trinity Golf team and strives to make it to the State Golf Championship.  Ellen is also part of the Brevard Symphony Youth Orchestra and has participated in all-state Orchestra for the last three years.  She also absolutely loves to read books all day long.

Soyoun (Soy) is a senior at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy.  She started piano lessons at age 5, and since has learned to play the violin and viola.  As a member of the Brevard Symphony Youth Orchestra, she placed first in the 2017 SBYO Concerto Competition.  Recently, Soy was named a 2018 Wendy’s High School Heisman state winner.  In addition, she is captain of Holy Trinity girls golf team and has been named a semi-finalist for the 2019 class of the Coca-Cola Scholar program.  She serves as student body president and president of the National Honor Society.  She has been named a National Merit semifinalist and AP national scholar and is a member of numerous other clubs and honor societies.  Soy wants to major in biomedical engineering and develop remote control prosthetic limbs.
