The Space Coast Symphony Jazz Orchestra was born from a natural collaboration between Space Coast Symphony Orchestra Artistic Director Aaron Collins and the extraordinary jazz talent found throughout our region. Inspired by a shared desire to bring bold, high-quality, and artistically adventurous programming to jazz audiences — much like the symphony does for orchestral audiences — the ensemble was created as a vibrant home for exceptional musicians to perform in a dynamic big band setting.

Today, the Space Coast Symphony Jazz Orchestra stands as one of Florida’s premier jazz ensembles, featuring some of the finest jazz musicians in the Southeast. Known for its exciting performances, polished sound, and imaginative programming, the SCSJO brings the thrill of big band jazz to thousands of listeners each year. By blending beloved standards with fresh contemporary arrangements, the orchestra celebrates the rich tradition of jazz while helping carry the art form boldly into the future.

The musicians of the Space Coast Symphony Jazz Orchestra are among the most seasoned and accomplished professionals in the field. Drawn from some of the biggest names in entertainment, each performance features a specially assembled ensemble of artists whose experience includes appearances with renowned groups such as The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, The Glenn Miller Orchestra, the Airmen of Note, and touring ensembles that have performed around the world alongside Grammy Award-winning artists. Under the direction of Andrew Cleaver, the SCSJO remains committed to presenting jazz of the highest caliber with energy, style, and heart.

Andrew Cleaver began his tenure as Jazz Director in 2024, becoming the fifth conductor to lead the ensemble. He follows a distinguished line of outstanding musicians and educators, including John Pendenza, Lee Romano, Dr. Patrick Hennessey, and Frank Wosar, each of whom helped shape the character and artistic identity of the group. Their legacy continues to resonate in the orchestra’s sound, spirit, and ongoing commitment to excellence.
