Alan Parshley

French Horn

A native of Michigan, hornist Alan Parshley received his education and training at Olivet (MI) College, Michigan State University, the University of Wisconsin in Madison, and the Yale Summer School of Music and Art in Norfolk, Connecticut. He performed with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra from 1976 to 1979 and toured the eastern United States as member of the American Wind Symphony Orchestra in 1980 and 1983.

Alan started performing with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra and Vermont Brass Quintet in 1984. As a member of the VSO Brass Trio, he toured the state for 25 years, introducing thousands of young students to brass instruments. He was a Lecturer in the Department of Music and Dance at the University of Vermont for 34 years, teaching Horn, Music Theory, Music Appreciation, Brass Techniques, group piano classes, and conducting the Vermont Wind Ensemble.

In 1987, he joined the horn section of the Albany (NY) Symphony, continuing to play there for 38 years. He has also performed with the Berkshire (MA) Symphony, the Berkshire Opera Festival, the Springfield (MA) Symphony, and the Portland (ME) Symphony.

In 2017, Alan decided to relocate to a warmer climate, and settled in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He performs with the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, is the horn section leader of the South Florida Pride Concert Band and performs in and manages the Tropical Winds Brass Quintet. Racking up those frequent flyer miles, he is still performing with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, an association of 41 years he is proud to continue.

Patrick Phillips

French Horn

Patrick Phillips is a highly respected music educator and performer with deep roots in the Brevard County arts community, where he has lived for over a decade. He most recently served as the Director of Instrumental Music at Satellite High School from 2013–2023, where his ensembles earned state and national acclaim. Under his direction, student groups consistently received Superior ratings at District and State Music Performance Assessments.
Before his tenure at Satellite High, Phillips was the Director of Instrumental Music at St. Petersburg High School, where he established a successful orchestra program. His work has been featured at prominent events, including the Music For All National Festival and conferences for the National Band Association and American School Band Director’s Association. 

A dedicated brass specialist, Phillips studied horn at Florida State University with Michele Stebleton and received additional instruction from David Cripps, James Wilson, J.D. Shaw, and Benjamin Lieser. His expertise led him to roles with Drum Corps International, where he developed and taught brass pedagogy for both Phantom Regiment and Spirit of Atlanta. His extensive training in jazz styles and improvisation with notable artists like David Detweiler, Scotty Barnhart, and Leon Anderson further complements his broad musical background. Phillips’s students are a testament to his expertise, with many earning All-County and All-State honors, winning DCI World Championships, and continuing their studies at prestigious conservatories nationwide.

Jacquelyn Hernandez

Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Jacquelyn Hernandez has always had an admiration for music. She began her musical journey at the age of five, where she started on piano. As she continued to grow, her love and passion for music followed, participating in any possible musical program throughout her academic career, eventually transitioning to her current primary instrument, the French horn.

Throughout her studies, Jacquelyn has been selected to participate in distinguished ensembles and programs. She was selected to perform in 2014 and 2016 with the Florida Intercollegiate Honor Band. In the summer of 2016, she was invited to participate in the Miami Summer Music Festival, and then participated in the 2018 Philadelphia Summer Music Festival.

Jacquelyn earned her B.M. in 2017 from Florida International University, where she studied with Eric Kerley. In 2019, Jacquelyn earned her M.M at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, as well as her Artist’s Diploma in 2020, all while under the instruction of Richard Todd. Presently, she performs around the South Florida area as a freelance musician and teaches lessons as a private instructor.
