Michael McCabe

Double Bass

Michael McCabe (born 1996 in Huntington, New York) is a bassist, vocalist, songwriter, and educator based in Orlando, Florida. He earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music from the University of Central Florida, where he studied bass with Michael Hill and pursued additional interests in conducting and musical analysis under the guidance of Dr. Chung Park and the UCF conducting faculty.

As a performer, McCabe appears regularly with orchestras throughout Florida, including the Ocala Symphony Orchestra, Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, Gainesville Orchestra, and Florida Lakes Symphony Orchestra. Beyond the orchestral stage, he is an active recording and touring artist with The Beat Brothers Band, which has released two albums of original music and performs extensively across the Southeastern United States.

McCabe’s versatility spans a wide range of musical settings, with performances in jazz, theater, and pop ensembles, including independent jazz engagements, local theater productions, and national touring dates with the folk-pop group A Band Called Honalee. As a composer and songwriter, he writes both original songs for his band and instrumental works for diverse ensembles, with aspirations to write for a broader range of artists in the future.

In addition to his performance and creative work, McCabe is passionate about music as a force for good. He has recently expanded his charitable efforts by organizing benefit concerts at UCF and launching the “Music Gives Back” initiative across social media platforms.

Kevin Gallagher

Double Bass

Kevin Gallagher is a bassist based in Central Florida, where he has lived and performed for more than a decade. He is currently in his fifth season with the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra and performs regularly with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra in Melbourne. Kevin also serves as Principal Bass with both the Florida Lakes Symphony Orchestra in Mount Dora and The Villages Philharmonic in Lady Lake.

A graduate of Florida State University, Kevin earned his degree in music in 1992. Following his studies, he and his wife moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where he spent a decade performing with a wide range of orchestras—including the Nashville Symphony Orchestra—and collaborating with artists across virtually every musical genre.

In 2002, Kevin and his family returned to Florida, where they have been happily rooted ever since. He is a proud Hagerty High School Husky Band Parent, with two daughters continuing the family’s musical tradition.

Outside of music, Kevin is an avid sports fan and remains a devoted supporter of his alma mater. Go Noles!

Hideki Sunaga

Double Bass

Born in Japan, Hideki Sunaga began playing the double bass at the age of thirteen. His earliest musical passion was Rock-a-Billy, and his band released recordings on the Rave On Label in Japan and Rock House Label in Holland—an experience that shaped his rhythmic drive and stylistic versatility.

Since the age of twenty, Hideki has performed extensively with leading Japanese orchestras, including the Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa, Sapporo Symphony Orchestra, Gunma Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, and the New Japan Philharmonic, appearing under the baton of Seiji Ozawa.

Now based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Hideki is an active freelance bassist throughout the United States. He is a member of the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra and the Boca Raton Symphonia, and has performed with the Miami City Ballet and the Key West Symphony Orchestra. He also served as a substitute musician with the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra until its closing in 2003.

Hideki earned his Professional Studies Diploma in Double Bass Performance from the Hartt Conservatory, and completed both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Lynn University in Florida. His studies have included master classes with Thomas Martin and Gary Karr, as well as training at the Boston Conservatory and Senzoku College of Music in Japan.

His principal teachers include Timothy Cobb (Metropolitan Opera Orchestra), Shigeru Ishikawa (Bern Symphony Orchestra), Hiroaki Naka (former Principal Bass, NHK Symphony Orchestra), and Shouji Sasaki (Gunma Symphony Orchestra). Hideki also participated in the Sarasota Music Festival in 1999 and 2001, studying with Timothy Cobb, Edwin Barker, Paul Ellison, and Fred Bretschger.

Hideki performs on an English double bass (2002) by Thomas Martin, as well as a German double bass crafted in Markneukirchen circa 1880.

Logan Hedgepath

Double Bass

Since middle school, Logan has been deeply passionate about the double bass, a lifelong pursuit shaped by countless hours of practice, performance, and continual artistic growth. His formative training took place at the Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Natick, Massachusetts, where he received invaluable guidance and a strong foundation for his musical development.

Logan continued his studies through a dual-degree program at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, a transformative experience that allowed him to study under the mentorship of esteemed members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra. These experiences fostered a deep understanding of the double bass and refined his abilities as a sensitive and collaborative musician.

In addition to his performance career, Logan is an experienced educator, teaching both double bass and electric bass to students of all ages and skill levels. He brings this expertise and enthusiasm to the Reilly Arts Center, where he looks forward to welcoming new students and inspiring the next generation of bassists. Logan is dedicated to nurturing each student’s individual passion for music through personalized instruction and unwavering support.

Logan recently joined the Ocala Symphony for the 2024–2025 season and also performs as a substitute bassist with The Florida Orchestra in Tampa.
