Frank Mazzeo

Lead Alto Saxophone

Frank Mazzeo is an accomplished saxophonist recognized for his extensive contributions to music performance and education. He has served as Lead Alto/Reed 1 at Philadelphia’s Walnut Street Theater, performing in over 80 shows. Formerly a saxophone professor at Temple University, Frank Mazzeo was appointed to the New Jersey State Council on the Arts where he served on the Grants Committee and chaired the Arts in Education Committee under three Governors.

He founded the New Jersey Saxophone Quartet, performing internationally at venues such as Carnegie Hall (twice) and the World Saxophone Congress in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and Zagreb, Croatia.

Greg Diaz

Tenor Saxophone

Greg Diaz, a premier vocalist, saxophonist, flutist, clarinetist, composer and arranger, has performed with Victor Lewis, Bobby Caldwell, The Manhattan Transfer, Othello Molineaux, Ira Sullivan, Roy Hargrove, Jon Secada, Ben E. King and many other international performers. He was also a featured singing member of the jazz vocal quartet sensation Mad Romance for over 15 years, along with Rick Harris, Wendy Pedersen and Lisanne Lyons.

Greg was also a clinician and professor of music at Miami Dade College from 1994-2002.

Greg currently leads his “Art of Imagination” small group and big jazz orchestra performing a mixture of reorchestrated jazz and pop standards and original works. Greg is also the Co Musical Director along with South Florida James McCoy of Dirty Work, a 12-piece band performing the music of Steely Dan.

Doug Spoonamore

Born in Missouri and raised in Illinois, Doug discovered the saxophone during his freshman year of high school—a moment that would set the course for a richly diverse and enduring musical career. Early on, his natural musicianship and curiosity for sound led him west to Los Angeles, where he briefly attended the Dick Grove School of Music, studying composition and arranging and sharpening the musical tools that would later define his versatility as a performer.

Not long after, Doug found steady work as a professional musician aboard international cruise ships, performing night after night for audiences from around the world. This experience proved formative, honing his adaptability, stylistic fluency, and polished stage presence—skills that would become hallmarks of his career.

In 1998, Doug relocated to Orlando, Florida, where he joined the acclaimed Main Street Saxophone Quartet at Walt Disney World. Performing in one of the world’s most demanding and visible live-music environments, he quickly gained a reputation for excellence, precision, and effortless musicality. During this period, Doug also became one of Central Florida’s most in-demand freelance musicians, moonlighting with a wide range of bands for corporate events, weddings, and high-profile engagements—comfortably navigating genres from jazz and funk to pop, R&B, and classic soul.

His career has included the rare opportunity to perform with legendary artists from the Motown era, including The Temptations and The O’Jays, sharing the stage with icons whose music shaped generations. Equally impressive are his recording credits, having appeared on albums alongside renowned musicians such as Stanley Clarke and Larry Carlton, further cementing his status as a respected and sought-after saxophonist.

With a career spanning continents, genres, and legendary collaborations, Doug brings a depth of experience, artistry, and authenticity to every performance—whether in the concert hall, the recording studio, or on stage with world-class collaborators.

Andrew Cleaver

Baritone and Tenor Saxophone

Saxophonist Andrew Cleaver has enjoyed a distinguished 37-year professional music career, beginning as a young U.S. Air Force Band musician after graduating from Florida Southern College in Lakeland. With 21 years of military service and 15 years at the U.S. Treasury, he is now recognized locally for inspiring Melbourne-area saxophonists through his private studio and collaborations with Brevard County schools including Viera, Melbourne, Satellite and Heritage high schools.

Throughout his career, Andrew has performed with celebrated artists such as Karrin Allyson, Paquito D’Rivera, Butch Miles, Louise Mandrell, The Ronettes, Kevin Eubanks, The Beverly Sisters, and saxophone master Eugene Rousseau. He contributed to the Grammy Award-winning album PDQ Bach: Music for an Awful Lot of Winds and Percussion (Best Comedy Album, 1992) and toured 20 countries, performing for audiences that included England’s Queen Mother, Prime Minister John Major, U.S. presidents Ford, Bush, Clinton and Obama, as well as senators and international dignitaries.

Andrew’s Air Force journey took him from Langley Air Force Base to Europe, Illinois, the Pentagon and Washington, D.C., where he served as saxophonist, announcer and public affairs specialist. He capped his military career with the Airmen of Note before retiring in 2009. Today, he performs with the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, leads its Jazz Orchestra, serves as SCSO executive director and performs with the SCSO Sax Quartet and Melbourne’s Space Coast Big Band. Andrew currently owns Brevard Winds and Brass where he deals in vintage, new and consignment instruments while assisting his wife with her home organizing business.

Jim Derrick

Jim Derrick is an accomplished trumpet player and arranger with a diverse performance history. Jim Derrick toured across the United States with The Spurrlows from 1983 to 1985 and with the Clyde Beatty/Cole Bros. Circus from 1987 to 1988.

Since 1989, Jim Derrick has served as a trumpet player and arranger for the Walt Disney Company. In addition, Jim Derrick is a freelance player and arranger active in the Orlando area and throughout the state of Florida.

Mark Sunderland

Mark Sunderland is a graduate of the Stetson University School of Music and serves as the Music Director at Calvary Chapel of Viera. He is an active freelance trumpet player in central Florida, performing regularly as part of the Blues Brothers tribute at House of Blues, Orlando.

Robert Vandivier

Rob Vandivier is a freelancer and educator, originally from Orlando. Rob Vandivier is nearing completion of his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Kansas and has served as lead or split lead on four Downbeat award-winning ensembles from University of North Florida and KU.

Anthony Agatiello

Trumpet

Anthony Agatiello is a welcome addition to the Space Coast music scene. He is originally from Rhode Island where he performed with several bands including lead trumpet in the All-State Jazz Band. Since moving to Florida, he has added to his impressive resume. He attended Florida Institute of Technology where he majored in computer science and minored in musical theory and performance and played lead trumpet with the Florida Tech Jazz Ensemble, cementing his reputation as a high note specialist. Upon graduating, Anthony performed with many groups including the Space Coast Big-Band and the Jazz Cats where he continues to expand his musical endeavors.

Mike Williams

Mike Williams was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on July 30, 1957 and began playing the trumpet at age 13. His love for the trumpet continued through college where he received the degree of Bachelor of Music Education at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. There, he studied trumpet with Dr. J. Robert Smith. He then became Director of Bands at his alma mater, Northwood Jr-Sr High School near Shreveport. He taught for three years there and also performed with the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra as well as the Rapides Symphony and the Longview Symphony during this time.

In 1983, Mike postponed his band directing career in order to pursue a career as a full-time professional trumpet player. He moved to Denton, Texas and attended the University of North Texas (formerly North Texas State University). For two years he played Lead Trumpet in the famed One O’Clock Lab Band directed by Neil Slater. He also studied trumpet with Keith Johnson and during the summers he studied  with the legendary Don (Jake) Jacoby. During this time he recorded four albums with the One O’Clock Band which includes a tribute to Stan Kenton, With Respect to Stan, and  Live in Austalia.

After three years at UNT, he traveled with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Two months later, he received a call from Frank Foster, jazz legend and leader of the World Famous Count Basie Orchestra, who asked him to join the band as the Lead Trumpet Player. In September of 1987, he joined the band and performed with them for 31 years!

Some of the highlights of being with the Basie Band include a Columbia Artists tour with both Dizzy Gillespie and Billy Eckstein (on the bus) for two months. With the Basie Band, he has recorded  twenty-five CD’s and DVD’s, three of which were Grammy winners. He has performed in all fifty states and fifty-five countries and has performed for the King of Thailand, Presidential Inaugurations, and in Jazz Festivals in several countries. He has also been broadcast in numerous live television and radio shows across the world.

Mike teaches privately and performs as guest soloist and clinician with universities and high schools across the nation and abroad. He has made recordings as the Lead Trumpet Player with several other artists including Charles Tolliver and Steve Wiest. He freelances in the Detroit area and is the Lead Trumpet Player for the Toledo Jazz Orchestra, the Jazz Trails Big Band in Saginaw, the Lansing Symphony Jazz Orchestra, the Gull Lake Jazz Orchestra in Kalamazoo, and the Rhythm Society Jazz Orchestra in Detroit.

Mike has been Adjunct Professor of Trumpet at the University of Arkansas, Monticello, for several years  and is currently one of the professors of the Master of Music in Jazz Studies degree offered there,  a low residency and internet program.

Mike is a Warburton trumpet and mouthpiece artist (Equipment: Mike Williams Signature Artist Trumpet – 3311 MW). He resides in Lapeer, Michigan with his wife, Amanda, and their two children, Wyatt and Stella.

Bryant Scott

Trombone

Bryant Scott has lived and worked in Orlando for 10 years. Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, he spent 13 years freelancing in Chicago, where he performed with the Chicago Jazz Orchestra. Bryant Scott toured full-time with the Glenn Miller Orchestra until 2022.

Joel Greenblatt

Joel Greenblatt, a professional trombonist from New York City, has studied and taught jazz for over 40 years. His accomplishments include performances at Carnegie Hall as principal trombone in New York’s All-City band, Musical Director for the French Woods Festival of the Performing Arts, Founder and Director of the NYPD Musical Outreach Unit, trombonist on Celebrity cruise lines, Carnival cruise lines and trombonist for the Max Romeo Band which toured the United States and Canada.

Since moving to Florida in 2005, Joel has taught privately and leads two jazz groups, the Jazz Cats and the Space Coast Big Band. Additionally, he served as Presiding Director for the Space Coast Jazz Society, was a board member for the American Jazz Pianist Competition and hosted “Exploring Jazz” on WFIT 89.5 public radio in Melbourne, Florida.

Eric Lee holds a Music Education degree from Northwestern University and a Master of Music from DePaul University. Eric is a founding member of the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, where he served as President for nine years. Eric teaches trombone and tuba at Eastern Florida State College and at Seminole State College and performs with nearly every symphonic organization in Central Florida.

Phil Coe

A Chicago born native, Phil Coe has been playing guitar professionally since 1971. He graduated from De Paul University with a B.A in Music Theory and Composition. After retiring from an air traffic control career in Illinois and Wisconsin, he moved to the Space Coast with his wife in 2012.  Phil has performed with numerous funk, rock and jazz groups throughout his career

His professional highlights include performances with recording artists Clark Terry, Bill Watorus, Eddie Daniels, Frankie Avalon, Marlena Shaw and Ed Shaughnessy just to name a few. Since moving to Melbourne, he teaches guitar, bass and music theory privately and in public workshops. Phil is an active member in several pit orchestras that perform in the King Center, the Henegar Center and the Cocoa Village Playhouse.

Ron Teixeira

Ron Teixeira holds a degree in music composition from Berklee College of Music. Ron is a former member of the Herb Pomeroy recording big band and has served as the house pianist at Heidi’s Jazz Club for 25 years.

Al Dodds

Al Dodds is a retired band and orchestra director with 41 years of teaching experience, including 13 years in Brevard County. Al is a freelance bassist, performing for 15 years with the Ron Teixeira Trio at Heidi’s Jazz Club. He graduated from the University of North Texas (class of 1980) and is a Vietnam veteran, having served with the USN Sentry Dogs from 1967 to 1968.

Bryan Gardenour

Originally from Melbourne, FL, Bryan is a professional drummer with over 25 years of performing experience. He has studied with Chester Thompson (Genesis, Weather Report), Jeff Sipe (Aquarium Rescue Unit) and Shawn Pelton (SNL House Band).

Notable experience includes national touring Top 40 bands, Disney World, Universal Studios, Royal Caribbean, Carnival Cruise ships and performing on the steps of the Capitol in Washington D.C.

Bryan lived in NYC for 8 years and played with numerous jazz artists and also performed at venues such as Birdland, The Rainbow Room and Smalls. He was a member of the Eric Stuart Band and toured the U.S. as the opening act for Peter Frampton.

In Nashville he was active in the music scene and played at venues including The Ryman Auditorium and B.B. King. After moving to the San Francisco Bay Area, he performed with local jazz artists before moving back to Melbourne in 2013. Since returning, he has become busy once again performing jazz.

Dan Jordan

Tenor Saxophone

Daniel Jordan is a nationally recognized jazz musician and educator since 1976. Dan joined Maynard Ferguson’s band in 1982 and began touring and recording as the tenor soloist. He is the creator of a nationally distributed educational video, “Journey through Jazz”.

Dan has taught at numerous schools including Rollins College and has performed with a multitude of renowned artists such as Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Mel Torme, Frank Sinatra Jr, Wayne Newton, Doc Severenson, Billy Eckstein, The Dallas Jazz Orchestra, Woody Herman, Barry Manilow, The Four Tops, The Temptations and many more. He has performed on New York City Broadway, Late Night with David Letterman, and in countless other shows and productions.

His television and recording experience include touring with Paul Anka, at the Montreal Jazz Festival, and a tour with Natalie Cole on live television in Italy, Germany, Poland and France. Other recordings include “Live From Birdland” with Scott Whitfield, “Storm” and “Live at the Great American Music Hall” with Maynard Ferguson, plus with various artists, “Live From Pleasure Island.”

Jon Oxford

John Oxford has over two decades of diverse musical experience as an educator and freelance guitarist. John holds a Master of Music in Jazz Performance & Composition from the University of South Florida, a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance and Composition from the University of Central Florida, an Associate in Arts from Eastern Florida State College and an Associate of Applied Science in Recording Arts from Full Sail University.

John serves as Director of Instrumental Activity at Eastern Florida State College and has performed with Sam Rivers’ Rejuvenation Orchestra, Chuck Owen and Mary Wilson of The Supremes, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and various touring Broadway musicals.

A former Army Band guitarist and published author, John Oxford has written “The Organized Guitarist” and the forthcoming “Rhythmic Elements of the Jazz Language.” John is fluent in intermediate French, enjoys baking, playing video games, traveling and is dedicated to advancing music scholarship, education and performance.
