THE PROGRAM
PERTTU Nimue and her Fairies Southern U.S. Premiere
DVORAK Cello Concerto
DVORAK Symphony No. 8
Your Space Coast Symphony Orchestra opens its doors and invites subscribers to step inside the creative process with a rare, behind-the-scenes rehearsal experience. Designed for the musically curious, this special open rehearsal offers a fascinating and dynamic glimpse into how a symphonic performance is shaped long before the concert begins.
To deepen the experience, Aaron Collins will launch the evening with an engaging conversation alongside guest composer Daniel Perttu and cellist David Calhoun, sharing insights into the music on the program and what to listen for as rehearsal unfolds. From the sweeping lyricism and rustic charm of Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8 to the discoveries that emerge in real time, you may find yourself just as captivated by the journey toward performance as by the final result itself.
Following the presentation, patrons are invited to join us in the Melbourne Municipal Band Room to watch as Aaron and the musicians refine, shape, and sculpt the music—adjusting balance, clarifying phrasing, and bringing each moment to life. It’s a rare opportunity to witness the artistry, collaboration, and problem-solving that transform notes on a page into a living, breathing performance.
Many who attend find the experience not only enlightening, but surprisingly fun—an intimate window into the heart of the orchestra that deepens appreciation for everything that follows on the concert stage.
Guests are invited to enjoy complimentary white wine and light treats prior to the rehearsal. Come curious, listen closely, and experience the music as it comes to life.
