VAUGHAN WILLIAMS String Quartet No. 1 in g minor
SCHUBERT String Quartet No. 14 in D minor, D 810 "Death and the Maiden"

Musicians from the ranks of the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra will perform a FREE chamber concert of classics, when they present Death and the Maiden, a thrilling program featuring works from Vaughan Williams and Schubert.  Vaughan Williams did not write much instrumental chamber music, his two string quartets lie about thirty years apart. The attractive and lovely quartet understandably carries over features of Ravel’s musical style after his studies in Paris but there are also glimpses of Debussy’s influence in the textures and melodic material as well as embryonic personal features that would be developed in the future.  Rounding out the program, the musicians will perform Schubert’s Death and the Maiden, one of the greatest legacies left behind by the composer, an incomparable treasure and one of the most important of the chamber music genre, written shortly before his untimely death.

The program is free, with a suggested donation of $20.
