By performing and commissioning today's brightest composers, your Space Coast Symphony continues its commitment to being an ambassador of today's composers, bringing fresh, exhilarating sounds to life in our concert halls. This dedication to new music is a core part of our programming, with roughly thirty percent of our performances featuring works by living composers, 15% of which are from composers who call Florida home. The SCSO also actively promotes diversity by programming works from Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) composers, making up 15% of their programming over the past 17 seasons.
When an ensemble performs a brand-new piece, it adds to the excitement of the concert-going experience and allows us to hear the classics in a fresh context. We will continue our commitment to new music with more commissions and world premieres in the seasons to come. The SCSO honors its history by taking a look back at the long list of composers we've performed and commissioned.
