"I always have a good day. I never have a bad day." -a wise 7-year-old
Favorite composer(s) to listen to?
Favorite composer(s) to perform?
I love electronic music and its infinite possibilities. One day I'd like to have an analog synthesizer to try to create whatever sounds and songs I want.
If you could blink your eyes and be in a favorite place right now, where would it be?
My grandmother's house in the mountains with my whole family.
Growing up mostly in Central Florida, Leah Johnson began studying piano at age 6 and cello at age 10. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree in cello performance from Wheaton College, studying primarily with Linc Smelser and serving as the orchestra’s principal cellist. Leah received her Master of Music degree from DePaul University, where she studied cello performance with Stephen Balderston, former Assistant Principal of the Chicago Symphony. The following year, Leah played as an associate member with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago under the baton of Esa-Pekka Salonen. In addition to the Space Coast Symphony, Leah has most recently performed with the Villages Philharmonic, Gainesville Orchestra, Charlotte Symphony (FL), Florida Lakes Symphony, and Orlando Philharmonic. She also plays with many chamber ensembles in Florida and enjoys teaching private cello and piano lessons.
