The Merry Widow

LEHAR  The Merry Widow

Light Opera of Orlando

Your Space Coast Symphony Orchestra partners with Light Opera Orlando to present a staged production of one of the world’s most famous operettas, Franz Lehár’s “The Merry Widow.”  Lehár’s beloved operetta The Merry Widow tells a fizzy tale of star-crossed lovers and political shenanigans in a fantastical Paris. Baron Zeta of Pontevedro must prevent the wealthy widow Hanna Glawari from marrying a foreigner; if she does, all of her wealth will leave Pontevedro, thus bankrupting the country.    Will Hanna’s former flame Count Danilovich—a debonair rake—win her heart again, or will she choose a flirtatious Frenchman instead?    Farce, romance and jealousy abound in this sparkling romp.  This comedic gem will captivate you with its lavish parties, lilting waltzes and beautiful love songs.

Sensuous, shimmering, and stormy — it’s a thrilling musical adventure and one of the most colorful works in all of music.

Romantic Masterworks:  Brahms & Schumann

BRAHMS  Symphony No. 1
SCHUMANN  Symphony No. 4

Two romantic masterpieces, one incredible concert.   As an ardent romantic, Schumann infused his writings with sensitivity and color like none other.  In his fourth symphony, Schumann reached great heights of musical expression – a journey from darkness into a blaze of light.   Brahms famously took twenty years to write his First Symphony and was 42 by the time of its première.   It was the spectre of Beethoven holding him back: “You have no idea what it’s like to hear the footsteps of a giant like that behind you”.    However, the symphony at last came to fruition in 1876 and was an instant success.   Powerful, poetic, and remarkable, Brahms’ first symphony is a milestone in symphonic literature.
