Haley Amanda Rhodeside is 21 years old and began playing the harp at age six. Haley studied for nine years with Jan Jennings in Orlando, FL. For the past four years, she studied under the tutelage of Susann McDonald at Indiana University, where she was a National Merit Scholar pursuing a double degree in Harp Performance and Mathematics. Haley recently graduated in May 2013, and will continue her studies in the Master of Music program at Yale this fall.

Currently, Haley is preparing for the USA International Harp Competition, which will take place in July. She was also a participant in the previous USA Competition in 2010. For her junior recital at Indiana University in March 2012, she was awarded a Performer’s Certificate from the Jacobs School of Music faculty. Haley has also won numerous other awards, such as 1st prize in the Young Artist’s Harp Competition in Rabun Gap, GA, 1st place in the strings category, 3rd place overall in the Bach Festival Society of Winter Park’s annual Young Artists Competition, 2nd prize in the Mount Dora Young Artist’s Competition, and 1st prize in the Space Coast Pops Young Performing Artists Competition, among others. In May of 2009, the International Harp Museum presented her in a solo recital.

Haley has performed as a harpist for many musical groups, including the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, Space Coast Pops, Indialantic Chamber Choir, Central Florida Winds, and Brevard Early Music Ensemble. She has also played with the Indiana University Philharmonic Orchestra, New Music ensemble and many other student ensembles at IU. She was a Concerto Contest Winner for the Brevard Symphony Youth Orchestra in 2007 and 2009 and was their principal harpist for three years. She has premiered works for harp solo, in student film, orchestra, and chamber groups.
