The concert culminates with Berlioz’s epic Symphonie fantastique, a thrilling work inspired by a fever-dream of unrequited romantic love. With its surging, volcanic melodies and brilliant orchestral colours, Berlioz’s masterpiece revolutionised music and is still one of the most exhilarating pieces ever written.
