Once upon a time, everyone used to like orchestral music. But then it got very stuffy. And expensive to hear. Concerts were performed less –and fewer people were able to hum the tunes. One day, a young man in Brevard County, Florida named Aaron T. Collins decided to do something about it. He would create a symphony orchestra with ticket prices that were genuinely affordable — and a performing season that continued all year long! Best of all, he decided to take out the stuffiness and make it about the music. The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra lives by those same principles today: Low ticket prices, year-round programming and a fresh musical perspective.
The Symphony for Everyone
The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra is a passionate group of professional musicians, music educators and mentored amateurs of exceptional ability. Under Conductor and Artistic Director Aaron T. Collins, they perform masterworks, film music, pops, jazz and holiday classics in addition to exciting new works by living composers and unscheduled “pop up” and free concerts. Its talented members love to play almost as much as the audience loves to listen. But make no mistake: this is not your grandfather’s symphony. The unexpected Can-Can, droll jokes and energy from the podium are just part of what makes the SCSO The Symphony for Everyone.
This time on Maestro's On Air we are joined on the show for the second time by Dr. Patrick Hennessey, Director of the Space Coast Jazz Orchestra. Of primary focus is the upcoming second annual Big Band Bash concert with Dr. Hennessey at the helm.
This time on Maestro's On Air, Jeremy Hickman sits down with the Maestro himself, Aaron Collins, for a discussion of the recent season announcement and a run-down of all concerts currently scheduled, including discussion of the planning process and music samples from the upcoming 2016-2017 performance season.
